White Chocolate and Cranberry Truffles

Each year we make the relatives we see over Christmas a bag of handmade treats. There’s usually a jam, a baked good, and a decoration for the tree. Last year we baked cinnamon shortbread, so this year we decided on truffles. Time wasn’t on my side this year, I needed something quick and easy, I found a recipe for Easy Chocolate Truffles on Taste, and adapted it to suit. This recipe is so easy to customise. Ricotta and Silverbeet Rolls

In an effort to both cook and blog more, I will be periodically be sharing some of our favourite recipes on the blog. I intend to go back and add all my recipes to the plug in I’m using for this one which will then create an easy to find index. Ricotta and Silverbeet Rolls Print Recipe Ricotta and silverbeet rolls are a favourite quick lunch or dinner at our house. You can easily substitute the silverbeet for spinach. The basic recipe is targeted to young eaters, but you can easily  ...

Blog Everyday in May – Day 5

Day 5 Write a ‘How to’ post teaching everyone … well, how to do something! Cooking, crafting, or anything else that takes your fancy. Realising today’s prompt is about writing a ‘how to’ at 7:15pm is not really the best! I’ve had a quick flip through my photos and decided I’ll share a recipe. This is a quick and easy dish that makes a great weeknight dinner. Serve them on their own, or with rice and salad. The best part about this recipe is that it’s  ...

Egg Tarts

Remember when this was a sort of all things home related blog? Which included food and recipes. Doing Project Life and making the time to blog about it, appears to have rejuvenated my enthusiasm for the blog as a whole and I’ve been remembering to take pictures of nice, simple food that I’d like to share. Additionally, we’re trying to eat less meat in our household. Col has gone the vegan route, whereas I’m just trying out different alternatives. When I stumble on something yummy I’ll share  ...

Chicken, Leek, and Potato Pie

Last week I succeeded in doing something I hadn't done before… I made a pie! A pie with pastry base and lid, not just a sheet of pre made puff pastry plonked on top of what's essentially a casserole! I didn't write my recipe down as I went, but it was pretty simple. I cooked the chicken, leek, potato, and onion until tender, then simmered them for a while in a white sauce that I'd flavoured with sage and thyme. Next time I'll add carrot and maybe a touch of spinach  ...

Is purple the new cream?

Today was rather busy. It involved interesting discoveries like these purple potatoes… I purchased them thinking they would be cream once you peeled them, but nope, purple. A quick google confirmed that this was normal and they’d fade on cooking. While they faded a little, they were still very much purple when served up to our dinner guests. It reminded me of Bridget Jones and the blue soup. I confess I completely forgot to post yesterday. I’m a little annoyed with myself as I was so  ...

Stop pinning – blueberry lemon loaf

This post really belongs on my other blog, but I am so desperate for content today that I’ve decided it can fit in here. Last week I posted my latest ‘Stop Pinning, Start Doing’ list. On it was this blueberry and lemon loaf…   This is the most delicious loaf. I used this recipe from Cooking with Sugar. I omitted the glaze as I thought it would be tasty enough without it. It’s lovely and moist and kept for several days in cling wrap. A great recipe and I recommend you try it next time  ...

A lovely day

Happy Birthday to me :) Every five years my birthday falls on Shedfest. The last time this happened was my 30th so you do the maths! This year marked the 7th time I’ve been along to Shedfest. If you’re from Melbourne, especially on the east side, I highly recommend it. Such a relaxing, picnic kind of day; not as raucous as grape grazing! This year we enjoyed wine and food at Wild Cattle Creek (delicious merlot) Brumfield (the cake and mulled wine were divine) Seville Hill (yummy  ...

Chicken and Black Bean Burritos

I wanted to make burritos with black beans in them. I had a delicious one a few years back that has stuck in my mind so armed with this memory I went in search of some burrito recipes. I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for, but I did find this; http://zoomyummy.com/2011/07/27/homemade-tortillas/#. They looked so delicious I just had to try them. The result was wonderful – I’ve since made them again. They’re soft with a hint of chewy, and taste lovely. I served them with a chicken,  ...
