Birthday boy!

Just over a month ago Elijah had his first birthday. His birthday fell on the long weekend so we planned his party for the following weekend as not everyone was going to be around. This was quite fortunate as he had a terrible cold on his actual birthday and there aren’t many good photos of him! I don’t believe children need a lot of presents and we tried to keep them to a minimum for his 1st. I made him a winter quilt with matching cushions for the cot using a panel, and  a texta roll  ...

{Stop Pinning, Start Doing} Progress Report

This weeks stop pinning, start doing projects have been quite successful. The intent was never to complete all of the projects over the week, just make a start and complete if possible. I’m happy to report that I have completed two of last weeks choices. You can read about them over at My Renvironment by clicking the links below.   Chimichangas // 5 minute artisan bread I hope to have some progress to report on the quilt block shortly. Stay tuned for this week’s picks!

5 Minute Artisan Bread

Over at The Red Wren I’m challenging myself to pick three pins I’ve pinned on Pinterest each week and begin the projects. This week I decided to undertake the 5 minute Artisan Bread  it was A-MAZ-ING. This bread is deliciously crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. I made my dough to the recipe specifications but only had enough for two loaves. It was still much cheaper than purchasing artisan bread and it’s such a wonderful feeling to slice and eat bread you’ve baked yourself. If  ...

Chimichangas

My husband is rather partial to the chimichanga. I’d pinned a recipe on Pinterest a while back and thought it was time to give it a go as part of my ‘Stop Pinning, Start Doing’ feature that I’m undertaking on The Red Wren. The recipe calls for ground beef (‘mince’ to us here in Australia), I didn’t have mince so I put my Kitchen Aid grinder attachment to work and made my own. It was a slow process but it did produce a nice mince without the worm like quality of supermarket mince. The recipe  ...

Belated Christmas – Tables

A major part of Christmas when you aren’t of religious inclination is food and decorating. You can see my decorations over at The Red Wren and below are some photos of tables and food from various functions. From top-left: My table set for our annual parent’s dinner. Belated Christmas – a cookie swap

I have a couple of things from Christmas to show you before we move on to the New Year. Over a month ago I attended a cookie swap hosted by Siobhan. The idea is that everyone brings cookies along and you swap! I made spiced ice box cookies in two flavours; cranberry and citrus, and hazelnut and chocolate. Some very yummy treats were received in return. Of the cookies pictured, favourites were the scotty dog shortbread, the lemon slice, the loft house cookies with the sprinkles on them, and  ...

Belated Christmas

For the second year running we decided to give handmade goodies to our extended family. This year they received: Embroidery hoop decorations – a last minute idea after I ran out of time to complete option A, then option B was a big fail. I was really pleased with how they looked. Peppermint Fudge – a delicious layered fudge; one layer of dark chocolate, one layer of white chocolate and crushed candy canes pressed on top while unset. Strawberry and vanilla bean jam- I sourced some  ...

Cider Festival

Today Col and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary at the Kellybrook Winery Cider Festival! It was lots of fun! Cider, more cider, apple themed desserts, pork and apple rolls, mulled cider….did I mention there was cider? I suspect these apples were pressed for juice. These are the Britannia Morris Dancers. It looks like lots of fun!   Lots of apples! I quite like the crates. All in all, a wonderful day!
