Creating… a person!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve regularly blogged, and at least six weeks since I’ve blogged at all. I can finally reveal why… These are bought slippers, not crafted by me! We’re having a baby in January! I’m due January 1st and admit I’m hoping it doesn’t arrive early for Christmas unless there’s time for us to be home for Christmas day! I’m not going to lie and pretend everything has been rosy. I’ve had much worse  ...

Thursday Three – Edition Four

Elijah has recently become really interested in Ben and Holly’s Magical Kingdom. He watched episodes back to back and recites the opening words when he thinks no one is listening. Last night I made him quick and easy wand out of some sparkly cardstock and a drinking straw. He’s been using it all morning and doing wand practice. In the photo above he is watching an episode where Holly does some wand practice and he’s following the instructions. Today’s Thursday Three  ...

Thursday Three – Edition Three

Hunting for eggs at kinder. Given how completely overboard I go with Christmas decorating, it may surprise you to know I don’t get carried away at Easter. I think Easter decorating is really only starting to become something you might do in Australia. More and more shops sell decorations, so I expect we will see more Easter decorating going on in the not so far future. The last couple of years I have decorated the mantle piece, and I will do that again this year, although I’m  ...

Thursday Three – Edition Two

Welcome to this weeks edition of Thursday Three which is all about crochet. I’m currently working on finishing a crochet beret by end of March that, according to my Ravelry project page, I began in February 2011. That’s quite a while for a small project!  Do you want to crochet the same beret? The pattern is free and found on the Berroco site. Lucy from Attic24 is one of my favourite crochet bloggers. The majority of my crochet projects are from patterns and tutorials that she  ...

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

The stores have decorations out, and the supermarkets are selling puddings and mince pies; Christmas is fast approaching and I thought I’d share my Christmas crafty plans. Sewing As usual I have a big list of crafty things I want to make for Christmas. I have just finished a rather large craft room/study reorganisation and declutter which involved scrutinising a lot of my fabric and either committing to use it, or selling it. I couldn’t bear to part with many of my Christmas fabrics so  ...

Simple Singlet

How are we all today? I’ve been a busy bee this week rediscovering my machine and have a singlet to show you. I saw this great kite knit fabric in spotlight a few weeks ago, but it didn’t have a lot of stretch and felt a bit stiff. I resisted and walked away. Fast forward a few weeks and while waiting in line to have some stretch velvet cut, my eye fell on the fabric and I decided ‘why not?’ I drafted this single pattern from an existing singlet, lengthening it a little, and adding extra  ...

Simplicity 2451

It’s been quite a while since I sewed for myself, so I feel the need to put a bit of a preface on this post. I’m not a beautiful seamstress, I’m a functional seamstress. People who don’t sew compliment me on the things I make, but I shy away from showing any experienced seamstress my seams, zips and hems. Why am I telling you this? Because I wanted to make it clear from the start that this isn’t a garment blog, nor do I have intention of it morphing into one, but I’d like to share what I’ve  ...

Stashbusting 2014

I cleaned up my sewing room this week, and while organising my fabric stash I felt a real sense of sadness that I’ve done so little with so much of it. The piles of  Christmas fabrics, the sweet children’s prints, the repro feedsacks… all purchased so enthusiastically with big and little plans in mind, yet relegated to a plastic container for 2+ years. After allowing myself to wallow for a minute in perceived failure, I pulled myself together and decided that I can change this, I can  ...

Chains of hearts

I noticed a chain of origami hearts at a friend’s home last weekend and decided that was just what I needed to add some cheer to the lounge room. It started with a few hearts, then quickly became a whole pile. The instructions I used can be found here.
