Stop pinning!

A little while ago, ok it was February, I was right into picking a few pins from pinterest and actually making the project, trying the technique, or cooking the food. It felt quite productive at the time, but then it ground to halt. It ground to a halt for a reason, the scrapbuster block tutorial. I still very much like the look of this block, but since I began working on it I’ve rearranged the furniture and the couch it was going on is no longer in a suitable place for what was going to be  ...

Chicken and Black Bean Burritos

I wanted to make burritos with black beans in them. I had a delicious one a few years back that has stuck in my mind so armed with this memory I went in search of some burrito recipes. I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for, but I did find this; http://zoomyummy.com/2011/07/27/homemade-tortillas/#. They looked so delicious I just had to try them. The result was wonderful – I’ve since made them again. They’re soft with a hint of chewy, and taste lovely. I served them with a chicken,  ...

{Stop Pinning, Start Doing} Project Board

After a number of weeks I’ve had a chance to revisit my stop pinning list! Complete this week is the DIY rotating goal list.     Initially my list was going to be to help me remember upcoming things I needed to do as I’ve noticed I’m a lot more forgetful than I used to be. I solved this problem by hanging a monthly calendar near my computer so I could write plans down as soon as I received confirmation so that negated that idea… then it came to me. I have so many craft projects on  ...

{Stop pinning, start doing} The Socialite Skirt

I’ve fallen a little bit behind on sewing in the past week thanks to a teething bubba. He’s lucky enough to be getting four top teeth at once!     I finished the Socialite Skirt this morning, only it isn’t the Socialite Skirt! The knit I used was quite thick and I was worried the pleats might make it too bulky so I followed the tutorial, omitting the pleats and extra width, and ended up with…. …complete with awful photography! The skirt itself came out well, but as you can see  ...

{Stop Pinning, Start Doing} New projects

I don’t want too many ‘pin’ projects on the go at once so I’m going to be carrying previous weeks over if they aren’t complete. Carry over Scrapbuster block tutorial – I’m currently revamping our back room which includes new cushion covers. I have lots of scrap fabrics left over from the hexie pillow I’m working on and this block will be perfect!  New Projects The Socialite Skirt – While rearranging my sewing room this week I discovered lots of knit fabrics that were intended for  ...

Chimichangas

My husband is rather partial to the chimichanga. I’d pinned a recipe on Pinterest a while back and thought it was time to give it a go as part of my ‘Stop Pinning, Start Doing’ feature that I’m undertaking on The Red Wren. The recipe calls for ground beef (‘mince’ to us here in Australia), I didn’t have mince so I put my Kitchen Aid grinder attachment to work and made my own. It was a slow process but it did produce a nice mince without the worm like quality of supermarket mince. The recipe  ...
