Uh-oh!
There is an uprising occuring in our front yard at present – The Revenge of the Vegetables.
After several months of being prodded at, picked at, munched on and exposed to all sorts of weather, they have said ‘enough is enough’ and bolted to seed.
The culprits are:
Barry Broccoli- Barry and his comrades have suffered for several months at the hands of little green caterpillars. He did start to produce a head, but no sooner did we start to dream of yummy broccoli stir-fry, he burst into flower along with five of his mates.
Cynthia Celery – Cynthia has spent a few months looking small and average. Roughly a week ago she and her fellow girlfriends started to grow legs – this week they decided they don’t want to be added to a yummy soup and promptly burst into sweet flowers.
Larry Lettuce- Unlike the other members of the seedy gang, we did get to sample Larry and friends. They soon tired of this contant picking and Larry proudly stands at two foot tall with a lovely crown of flowers.
Who will be next to join the revolt?
I’m part of Veg About. Are you?

December 8, 2008 at 9:28 pmI’ll be watching my vegetables closely, to see if I can avert similar behaviour. The coriander is showing signs of wanting to go to seed, so I keep attacking it with scissors!
