Advice please…
This blog is hosted by Acenet – my webspace provider and my domain is registered. I made the move from blogs hosted at both Blogger and WordPress a few months back, but I’m wondering if it was a mistake. My main reason for the move was to consolidate my blogs and use the webspace I’ve been paying for since 2005 for something other than storage, however since moving my blog I’m getting an unbelievable amount of spam and it’s putting me off blogging.
So the the questions are:
For those out there hosted through a web space provider rather than wordpress.com or blogger.coc – how do you prevent spam?
For those with free Blogger blogs – do you get much spam?
I’m starting to wonder if I should just move this back to a free provider.
What’s your advice?

November 22, 2008 at 5:46 pmHi. I haven’t had any problems with my Blogger account but I guess I don’t have anywhere near as many readers as some. Seeing that you are a paying customer, have you asked your provider what measures they suggest to reduce spam? Can you add one of those random letter things to stop automatically generated spam?

November 22, 2008 at 10:40 pmThat’s rotten luck about all the spam. I have been very lucky – I think I recall seeing maybe one or two spam posts so far (I use Blogger). I do have word verification set up though – I don’t know if this might make a bit of a difference?

I’ve only ever used blogger and I have never ever been spammed – not once!
Hope this helps – I know it can get so annoying!
