Christmas decorations

Keen observers may note that I’m not quite up to date with Blogtoberfest. I started out with gusto but ran out of ideas of things to post. As I just said to my husband; it’s hard to post daily on a craft blog if you haven’t actually made anything! Still, I’m still forging on and will be happy even to make 15 posts in a month as that’s at least 13 more than usual!

Last year I was pregnant over Christmas and posted this. Christmas is a special time of year for me and I was disappointed that I just didn’t have the energy or inclination to make decorations. It’s been my goal for a number of years now to slowly replace a lot of my cheap decorations with nice, handmade ones.

This year I have all the enthusiasm in the world to make decorations and have been stocking up on supplies over the past few weeks. With a four month old, things will take a while so I thought it a good idea to start sooner rather than later.

I spend a lot of time gazing at Christmas craft during the year and round up favourite tutorials and sites on my Pinterest and computer. Today I thought I would share my favourite sites for Christmas craft with you.

Better Homes and Gardens (America) – lots of resources here. Templates, instructions, food, gift wrapping.

Martha Stewart – I’m a bit of a Martha fangirl and turn to her website a lot for crafty and cooking inspiration.

Sew Mama Sew -  A good round up of Christmas tutorials.

Bugs and Fishes – felt decorations! I love felt for decorations as it’s so easy to work with and very effective. Some lovely things here. I’m eyeing off the vintage baubles for the annual family decoration this year; with an added twist.

Not Martha – tutorials for various things but my main reason for including her is because she made my most favourite gingerbread idea ever!! I’m yet to have a go at making these myself, but I think this year will be the year.

Whip Up – head on over here for round ups of tutorials galore.

Now I’m going to let you in on a secret dream of mine – I really, really want to create Christmas tutorials and have a little Etsy shop that sells Christmas kits. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a number of years now but various things have always got in the way. Most of the decorations and garlands I’ve made over the years have been creations of my own so perhaps it’s time to put some of them into words and pictures so you can make some too!

I’m with you on the kits – I would love to do that too. I’m thinking of screenprinting some little motifs for Christmas making this year. Lots of festivities ahead!
