Quilt beginnings

fabricdrying

Some of the fabrics for various quilt projects drying now- almost ready for cutting!

I’m pretty inspired and keen to get started on the various quilts/throw ‘quilts’ I have planned and I have a question for quilters our there about solids. For the two little quilts I’ve made in the past I used plain cotton solids from Spotlight. I’m not thrilled with them though and find the dye seems to run a bit and then make the fabric appear ‘blotchy’.

I did some reading today and read good things about Kona Cottons so I’ve ordered some neutrals to try. Do any of you use Kona Cottons? What do you think? If not, what do you use? I have to admit I’ve never thought about solids before.

Thanks!

I’ve been trying to get my hands on some Kona cottons for ages- they’re quilte thick, so good if you’re using white I’m told, because the batting won’t show through. A quilt shop lady said they’re difficult to hand piece. The quilts I’ve seen made with them look fabulous!

If you find that you love them, you can buy a colour-chart to pick your colours to order online.

I ordered mine from an Etsy seller – 7 yards for 38US which seemed very reasonable. I’ve seen them in online AU stores for 17/m! I mainly want to use them for backing and borders so hopefully they’re ok.
